Strategic planning

Lao Women project filmed the lives of women in three villages over the span of a year. My task was to create a distribution strategy for the videos and spark conversations about women’s roles in Lao society. To achieve this, we developed an engaging website that showcases the video content, as well as contextual information and interviews related to the project.

We shared the website links through a newly-established Facebook group. To generate interest and drive traffic to the website, we used teaser videos that captivated our audience. Within just two months of launching the website and Facebook page, our posts reached over 350,000 people on Facebook, with more than 30,000 viewers watching the video clips.

Moreover, the Facebook group served as a dynamic forum for fostering lively discussions surrounding women’s societal roles. As a final touch, we wrapped up the project with a summary video that featured the heartfelt reactions of the villagers upon watching the final videos, as well as the reactions of Facebook users.

Scope

  • Develop and implement a distribution and content strategy
  • Design an optimized website for hosting and showcasing videos
  • Generate informative content for the website, including background information and interviews related to the video content
  • Create and execute a social media strategy to promote the newly established Facebook group and the website for video viewing
  • Produce a summary video that presents project findings and audience reactions.

Websites

As a novice dog breeder lacking an online presence, my client sought my expertise in designing an attractive, fast, and optimized website that would outshine her fellow breeders’ online offerings. With the new website in place, the breeder quickly garnered visibility within the breeding community, allowing her to place her second litter to homes of her selection in record time.

To bring the clients vision to life, I worked closely with her to determine the desired structure and content. I also created a blog post template that enables the client to effortlessly add text and photos to the the “News” section.

Even after the job is done, I remain committed to my clients continued success. With this client that meant initial training that empowered her to start making basic updates by herself, as well as a promise of technical support when needed. After all, a website is only effective when it is kept up-to-date and accurately reflects the business it represents.

Scope

  • Develop a wireframe to outline the website’s layout and design
  • Craft engaging and informative text to complement the photos
  • Select visually compelling photos for prominent placement on the site
  • Optimize the website’s structure for seamless navigation and accessibility.

Graphic Design

The LIWG raises awareness about the social, economic, and environmental impacts of land-related projects. In my first project with the LIWG, I not only had the opportunity to establish a consistent and professional brand for their briefing notes, which has now remained the same for the past six years,  but I was also responsible for editing the content. This comprehensive role allowed me to ensure both the visual appeal and informative quality of the note.

In today’s fast-paced world, where individuals are bombarded with a constant stream of information, a thoughtful and engaging graphic design is a must. It’s the only way organizations can ensure that their materials effectively convey their message and leave a lasting impression.

Scope

  • Summarize a case study into a concise briefing note, incorporating highlight and summary sections for easy comprehension
  • Develop a professional and visually appealing template for briefing notes
  • Create illustrations, infographics, and tables to enhance understanding and visual impact.

Videos and animations

The NUFNIP project had been working to improve food security in Northern Laos for almost four years. To ensure continued funding, the program’s impact needed to be captured for its stakeholders.

To achieve this, I created a two-part video that captures the program’s success. The first part is an animated explainer video that summarizes the program’s approach to addressing food and nutrition security challenges. The second part features interviews with villagers, who share how the project has changed their lives. The resulting video effectively communicated the program’s success and played a significant role in securing continued funding for the NUFNIP project.

What made this project unique was the remote collaboration involved in the filming process. Instead of personally traveling to the location, I closely collaborated with the NUFNIP staff and a videographer to develop an interview guide and shooting guide. These resources provided clear instructions on how to conduct interviews as well as on camera angles, framing, lighting, and required b-roll footage. The videographer captured the footage while the staff conducted the interviews.

Once the material was collected, I worked with the videographer on rough cut and rest of the editing. I enjoy teaching and empowering staff, with the hope that it brings them closer to being able to independently undertake a similar project in the future.

Scope

  • Creating a set of open-ended interview questions to elicit answers covering different aspects of the program
  • Creating a detailed shooting guide to ensure that the resulting video is engaging and informative
  • Post-production: editing, animation creation, and subtitle addition.
